Saudagar

*ing : Raj Kumar, Dileep Kumar, Manisha Koirala, Vivek Mushran
Director : Subhash Ghai

Taline : Love overpower feud

When I think of Subhash Ghai's Saudagar two things come to mind. Firstly is the immensely popular song Ilu Ilu, secondly is the coming together of two titan of Bollywood, Dilip Kumar and Raaj Kumar.
I was too young when the movie released but the song ILU ILU was a rage even then.
The film had a clichéd storyline where two best friends become enemy due to some conspiracy and their kids fall in love. Its how the kids manage to break the hate barrier and how their love wins is the story. But the film is large in vision. It has two titan actors like Dileep Kumar and Raj Kumar playing the friend, and later the enemy. It was debut of Vivek Mushran and Manisha Koirala. The film had a good soulful music which was a trademark for lot of films made by Subhash Ghai. No matter what, I used to admire him for his work till Pardes, his downfall started from Taal and he has never recovered again.
Wish to see old showman Subhash Ghai again.

Lust, Caution

*ing : Tony Leung Chiu Wai, Wei Tang, Joan Chen
Director : Ang Lee

Tagline : To kill the enemy, she would have to capture his heart....and break her own.

Finally saw movie Lust, Caution. Directed by Ang Lee. I had this movie in my computer for last 2 years. It is a very tragic love story set in 1940s of China. It’s a beautiful film and the title sounds odd initially, bt if you see the movie, it is very well justified. This film is about a woman enticing a top ranking official in the occupying Japanese government, in order to assassinate him. And there starts the game of love, sex, deceit , helplessness and tragedy.
I have seen many movies in my life. Many. But Lust, Caution has the most explicit sex scenes ever shown in a mainstream film. Sometimes its too graphic and discomforting too but sometimes its really beautifully done.sex scenes, which are very very long and very very detailed , are never forced in the film. Infact those are very important part of story. Watch it for the movie and the story. If at all u also want to watch it for sex scenes, u wont be disappointed.
Ang Lee is a genius. He's so good at capturing the emotions of his characters and actors. It's like he unfolds them so that everything on the inside is laid bare
The film itself at best is a espionage film. but that's not all it is. It's very much like a noir and a war film and romance is probably the genre that is represented least.
The film hasn’t left me since I hv seen it. Watch it.

Saare Jahaan Se Mehnga

*ing :Sanjay Mishra, Vishwa Mohan Badola, Pragati Pandey, Zakir Hussain,
Director : Anshul Sharma

Tagline : Mehangai ki bajao , This March

Saare jaha se Mehnga is by the same team which brough us very ‘funny phass gaya re obama’ which was a take on ‘mandi’ .. Saare jaha se Mehnga, as title suggests, is a take on ‘mehangai’.
Its about a family which is struggling to meet up with the high costs of everything and comes up with a scheme to battle it. Only, it has some legal issues and an officer is after their life. Film has a topical theme but is not funny or as emotional which it shud hv been. There is unnecessary love track which mars the films chances. Wish it was better.

Welcome to the punch

*ing : Andrea Riseborough, James McAvoy, Mark Strong
Director : Eran Creevy

Tagline :

Welcome to the punch is a boring confused movie. The film has strong star cast led by super talented James McAvoy but the story is soo confusing and all over the place that it actually tests ur patience. I was expecting an edge of the seat thriller bt it is nothing bt a clichéd story of a policemen chasing a gangster which has a conspiracy theory lurking.
Unless u r a diehard fan of James McAvoy, avoid it.

World’s Greatest Dad

*ing : Robin Williams, Daryl Sabara, Morgan Murphy
Director : Bobcat Goldthwait

Tagline : Lance Clayton is about to get everything he deserves.

I avoided seeing World's Greatest Dad for quite some time due to the title. I mistook it for some Disney kid's movie. When I finally sat down and gave it a chance I found a very dark, disturbing adult drama that had me laughing and crying at the same time. There are some humorous moments but this is by no means a comedy. If you are expecting a bunch of belly laughs you will be disappointed. This is a very sad story about a natural born loser who finds the attention he craves in the sympathy he gets after the death of his sexually perverted son. What makes this even more emotionally charged is that our anti-hero is fabricating the circumstances surrounding his son's death in order to gain sympathy and also to ghost write his illiterate son's brilliant journal to get it published in compensation for his own failed writing career. Which troubles him all the time. It’s a good film worth a view.

Killing them softly

*ing : Brad Pitt, Scoot McNairy, Richard Jenkins
Director : Andrew Dominik

Tagline : In America you're on your own

I have to say I am a huge fan of Brad Pitt. I think he is one of the best actor of this generation and I love him in everything he does. But he really needed not to do this movie. The film is boring and utterly boring. Film is about how American economy is collapsing and how everyone is being affected by it. Even the small time gangsters. Not just that, how the government is killing everyone only, slowly softly. There is very little action in the movie and there are lot of portions which only has conversations, which frankly are not at all interesting.
Wish hadn’t seen the movie. Wish Brad pitt hadn’t done this movie.

David

*ing : Vikram, Neil Nitin Mukesh, Vinay Virmani, Isha Shewani, Tabu, Monica Dogra
Director : Bijoy Nambiar

Tagline : Three Lives, Three Destinies, One Name

David is a story of three lives in three generations that at the end cross each other's path. Bejoy Nambiar has directed this visually appealing and musically soothing movie much like his first film , Shaitan.
Neil Nitin Mukesh's David is a man-of-few-words-David, and may be the best story in all three. This one with its black n white tone sets the gritty mood right away. The actors here have acted their part well and even the story keeps you with it. A crime drama, which has its own set of twists brought to screen beautifully. The film has beautiful Monica Dogra (emotionally ineffective though) who I must admit, have a slight crush on.
Vinay's David is a wanabe-rockstar-David. This one's a drama which could have been easily better with the potential. One as an audience will find it difficult to empathize with his character even when this is supposed to be more painful than the other two.
Vikram's David is the drunkard David who is hated by his neighborhood for his unruly nature. The story tries to be funny with its unconventional screenplay like his dead father (Sourabh Shukla) coming to visit him after taking over a living person's body, randomly. But it’s the weakest of the 3.
I hadn’t like Shaitan much. I dint like David much. But Nambiar deserves to make better movies.

Marley

*ing : (as themselves) Bob Marley, Ziggy Marley, Jimmy Cliff
Director : Kevin Macdonald

Tagline :

I am amazed at the amount of information not publicly known about an icon such as Bob Marley. This movie goes into great (and previously unmentioned) detail regarding his life, his family, his music and his untimely death. The interviews with his wife, his girlfriends, his children, band mates, etc. tell much of the story that we never were privy to prior. While it is more than two hours in length, you will soon realize it takes every bit of this and then some to detail the life of someone who unfortunately only lived to the age of 36. There are recording sessions, interviews with Marley himself and footage of his many tours and concerts. This documentary will convert anyone yet understanding how important Robert Marley was to world music and world politics. He was an icon in West Indies and a face of peace all across the world. Reggae music got the popularity mainly cause of Bob Marley. Anyone who has any interest in music or life of great men, I highly recommend it.

Friends (season 10)

*ing : Jennifer Aniston, Courtney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry, David Schwimmer

Creator: David Crane, Marta Kauffman

Tagline : All you need is friends !

Ok, so last season is over. And I have to admit something. even though i had heard a lot abt Friends I had never seen it. not a single episode.
After some strong recommendation by friends, i started watching i last July. and i immediately fell in love with it. i loved each and every show. each and every character of it.
i enjoyed the humor and the fun soo much, i was totally addicted to it. i cudnt wait to watch the next show and the next season. total 10 season together.
And here I finished watching the last episode of last season. and i have to say that i am extremely sad that the show got over. it feels like a part of me got over ,yes, i loved it soo much.
Ross, Monika, Rachel, Joey, Phoebe i love all of them. its unfair of me to rank according to personal favorite coz together all of them made the show soo great.
its one of the best thing i ever say. including any TV or movie. Nothing can surpass the sheer joy i had while watching the Friends in last 10 months, i went from being singe to 'in relationship'. and my GF is also fan of the show so it feels even more special.
i finished the show in just 10 months and yet i am soo sad. i wonder for people who saw it over the 10 years. what they wud hv felt knowing that the show is over for good.
about the story of last season, well it all ends perfectly. Monica and Chandler gets a baby, and not just one but twins. Phoebe is married to Mike. Rachel, after a brief hiccup and almost taking a flight to Paris, comes back to Ross. And Joey, well he remains Joey. The ending was emotional.
There is a void in my daily life which i don’t think any show can fulfill now.. FRIENDS

Mere Dad ki Maruti

*ing : Saqueb Salem, Rhea Chakraborty, Ram Kapoor
Director : Ashima Chibber

Tagline :

Mere Dad ki Maruti is another film by Y films, a subsidiary production house of Yash Raj films which makes a light hearted small movie with youngsters. Their other two films, Luv ka the End (which I dint see) and Mujhse Fraandship Karoge ( which I enjoyed) has been pretty much of same genre.
A 90 minute film about an Boy who lost his dad maruti Car which was meant to be for his Sister wedding Gift. There isn't much in story. most of the laugh comes from the punjabi language and flavour this film holds. The funniest scenes are between the Dad ram kapoor and Son Saqib Salem, the daughter dancing scene and scenes between saqib and his friend Gattu played by Prabal punjabi. It is an decent watch, which can you watch with your friends. Nothing special or extraordinary about it. But thankfully the film has a very clean humor unlike lot of movies of such genre which relies on double meaning dialogs to make you laugh.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

*ing : Jim Carrey, Kate Winslet, Gerry Robert Byrne
Director : Michel Gondry

Tagline : You can erase someone from your mind. Getting them out of your heart is another story.

''Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind'' is a big and strange name, but it matches perfectly this movie. I can say this is one of my favorite films at all, and one of the things that makes it so special to me, is the fact that it can be interpreted in multiple ways.
If you can relate to the underlying theme of love longed for, love given and received, and love lost, this is a great film. If you have come to understand that acceptance can -sometimes- be a great thing and not a compromise or a 'settle for' - this is a moving film.

As crazy and almost surreal as elements of this film are, it somehow remains honest and real. That seems like a contradiction
Carrey and Winslet both turn in superb performances, as do the supporting cast. An incredible film that most of the people who 'get it' will love - but I suspect there will be more than a small percentage who won't understand it or can't relate to it and they will (understandably) dislike it.
Here's the basic plot. Clementine (Winslet) and Joel (Carrey) have a long, rocky relationship. Clementine decides to get Joel erased from her memory, so Joel decides to do the same, only while Joel is in the process of the erasing, he comes back around to the really sweet, nice memories, and realizes that he wants out of the procedure.
Just imagine, instead of dealing with the pain and suffering of your past, you can erase people and moments from your memory, and move on with your life, without giving it another thought. Imagine your bad relationships can disappear. You bad experiences obliterated. Your bad times gone.
I have never been a fan of Jim Carrey and never liked his style of acting. But he was just marvelous in the movie. And Kate Winslet is amazing. She’s my long time favorite. Gorgeous, Alluring, Luminous and every other adjective for her is incomplete. She’s the perfect lady for desire.
And this a a beautiful film. Perhaps the best romantic film of this generation. It may sound farfetched but it is true.

The Bourne Legacy

*ing : Jeremy Renner, Scott Glenn, Edward Norton
Director : Tony Gilroy

Tagline : There Was Never Just One

I am a huge fan of Bourne Franchise. I think the 3 movies were extremely smart and enjoyable films. so In a way I think this film disgraces the Bourne series, and here's why: it simply did not have the feel of a Bourne movie. Between awkwardly chosen locations, some sci-fi drug twist, and and incredibly over-simplified and at times dull plot line, this is hardly an action movie, let alone a Bourne movie. Even the actors seem bored in their job and there aren’t just enough thrills are actions or emotions. Not just that, they hv criminally wasted talented actor like Edward Nortan.
Wish they dint make this movie. Wish I dint watch it. Yes, its that bad.

Ella Enchanted

*ing : Anne Hathaway, Hugh Dancy, Cary Elwes
Director : Tommy O'Haver

Tagline : Get enchanted

am not much a fan of ‘fairy-tale’ genre of movies. I was also not much keen on watching this except I had to watch it on someone’s insistence. But I have to say I had fun watching this movie, a piece of light hearted fun that everyone can enjoy. *If* they remember the opening lines of the movie; this is a fairytale. And is therefore not to be taken seriously, it should be watched for the pure enjoyment of getting away from the daily chores.

The Perks of Being a Wallflower

*ing : Emmaa Watson Logan Lerman, Ezra Miller, Paul Rudd
Director : Stephen Chbosky

We accept the love we think we deserve.

A movie with such a interesting name which also stars Emma Watson had to be seen. Trailer was interesting and I was expecting a decent high school story except it was much more than that.

This is a story of coming of age and coming to terms of a boy entering high school and adulthood. Freshman Charlie played by Logan Lerman almost by accident becomes friends with Patrick played by Ezra Miller and his stepsister Sam played incredibly well by Emma Watson. Soon he is hanging out learning about the ins and outs of being a teen. But there is more than wat meets the eye. The story is very simple yet complicated because of how much goes on. But the way it unfolds is beautiful and sad, sometimes all at once. While it has its funny moments, it also manages to go through dark topics as well such as homosexuality, drugs and death. Film has outstanding soundtrack which makes the viewing pleasure even magnified. Must watch
