Gattu

*ing : Mohd Samad, Jayanta Das, Ritika Handa, Harshit
Director : Rajan Khosla

Tagline : Laga Le Pech

Gattu is a heartwarming film about an orphan in a small town of india, Roorikie. When you have a dream , the only thing you would require to achieve it is through desire and passion. Gattu tells the story of a street kid who achieves the impossible.

A street kid, Gattu , takes up the challenge of defeating a local champ Kaali in the kite-flying competition. To compete from a high level,he infiltrates a school terrace by impersonating as the student and also makes new friends.

Directed by Rajan Khosla , Gattu is a welcome change as it brings back the childhood memories of kite-flying , being mischievous in school , playing pranks on your teacher. The film duration is 75 mins and every frame is amazing to watch. The kite-flying scene is eye-catching ( on the same par with Kite Runner). Cinematography is good. Dialogues are nice. Editing is crispy. Screenplay is gripping. Hats off to Rajan Khosla for choosing a different subject based in North India. Mohd Samad was perfect for the role of street-smart , mischievous, good-at-heart Gattu. He emotes so well through his eye and is amazing to watch him act.

An honest attempt, made on a shoe-string budget, with beautiful picturisation.

The princess diary

*ing : Julie Andrews, Anne Hathaway, Hector Elizondo
Director : Garry Marshall

Tagline : She rocks. She rules. She reigns.

A fun story - if entirely unoriginal - about an awkward and unpopular 15 year old San Francisco girl (Anne Hathaway) who discovers out of the blue that she is the heir to the throne of the small, fictional European principality of Genovia, and has to deal with all the adjustments that requires.

It's typically Disney-esque. There's nothing here that would cause you to blush even a little bit as you watch this with your 8 year old. The strongest language used is "shut up" - and it was quickly explained to the Queen that in America "shut up" doesn't necessarily mean "be quiet;" it might just mean "wow!"

There's a strong cast. Hathaway put on a very good performance in the lead role of Mia, moving from shy and awkward teenager, to sudden celebrity causing her to have to deal with being popular not for who she is but for what she is, to - finally - elegant princess. Julie Andrews was - well - Julie Andrews. She didn't miss a beat in her portrayal of Queen Clarisse, and Hector Elizondo handled the role of Joseph - Mia's driver and bodyguard - with great style.

It's a fun movie. Nothing heavy, nothing that will cause you to think too much. Just nice.

Himmatwala

*ing : Ajay Devgn, Tamannah, Paresh Rawal
Director : Sajid Khan

Tagline : 29th March 2013...The 80's will be back!

How in the world can make such a bad film ? how ? not even someone who has 3 hit films in past (all of them were bad). Yet, how can anyone make such atrocious film. Well, ask Sajid Khan
I felt like breaking my laptop while watching the film (last time I had the same feeling when I was watching tees maar khan , incidently made by Sajid’s sister Farah. )
I used to think he is a smart and funny guy. He hosted hugely popular show ‘Kehne mai kya harz hai’ on sony tv and was my favorite when I was growing up. Dint know he wud end up being such a bad bad director. Also, he is sooo pompous and full of himself, that he already claims that my film will be biggest hit of the year even before it is released.
Himmatwala is a remake of a film made in 1983 which was remake of some southindian film. I don’t even want to get in details bt must say, pls burn the cd or dvd of film if u come across any.

Fast & Furious 6

*ing : Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Dwayne Johnson, Jordana Brewster, Michelle Rodriguez, Gal Gadot
Director : Justin Lin

Tagline: All roads lead to this

As the Fast & Furious franchise continues with it's simple enjoyments of fast cars, well oiled muscles and sexy ladies. This film does meet expectations, and is your typical faster and bigger sequel.

This time the story follows Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel), Brian O'Conner (Paul Walker) and the gang. Who are this time not being chased but being recruited by Luke Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson). To bring down international criminal Owen Shaw (Luke Evans) who is aided by once thought of dead Letty Ortiz (Michelle Rodriguez).

What is good about the film is Director's, Justin Lin's decision to keep the film in a action-oriented direction. With a slight nods to it's street racing past. But focusing on 80's big muscle, big explosions nostalgia. Also the continuing use of practical effects over CGI backgrounds and locations. Make the film look all the more impressive. The action is over the top and a little silly but i did very much enjoy it. The only poor bit being a moment where Vin Diesel's character saves someone life taking the ridiculousness a bit to far.

This is a fun film, so just turn off your brain and enjoy the ride and be prepared for a very decent post credit sequence hopefully setting up a possibly very exciting Fast 7.

Coupling (Season one)

*ing : Jack Davenport, Gina Bellman, Sarah Alexander
Created by : Steven Moffat

Tagline : The naughty new comedy about nothing...but SEX!

The lives and loves of three Britsh men and women. Sort of like a British version of "Friends". But with more sex, and sex and sex. There is no plot line in the first season. All the episodes consists of men talking their sexual issues and women doing same. Men wants to do women and women wants to do men. Wish it was funnier though.

Trance

*ing : James McAvoy, Vincent Cassel, Rosario Dawson
Director : Danny Boyle

Tagline :

I have liked Danny Boyle and his movies. So, clearly I was kicked to watch Trance. I like James McAvoy, I think he's a really good & charismatic actor. (probably the best James Bond England never had. ) And Vincent Cassel, in my opinion, always delivers. The movie pumps you up with an intriguing storyline, flashy & artsy camera shots & angles, thrilling scenes backed up with a really good musical score. James McAvoy plays an auctioneer who is to hand over an expensive Goya painting to Vincent Cassel, doesn't do so, gets a knock on the head and as a result is unable to remember what he did with it. Cassel and his cronies then force McAvoy to undergo hypnosis from Rosario Dawson to try to refresh his memory. Once this is all in place the twists and turns start coming thick and fast, with much of the film taking place in McAvoy's mind, but what follows is often totally unexpected.

The experience of the movie for the viewer is similar in many ways to riding a roller coaster blindfolded. You know roughly what is going to happen, but not when it happens. You know there will be twists and turns and loops and drops, but you you don't know exactly what they will be. You feel exhilarated, scared and intrigued. Often all at once.

There is action, drama, great acting, suspense, intricate plot twists, intriguing characters, sex, violence, humour and rich dialogue all rolled into one wholly satisfying and enjoyable ride. What more can you want from a film? Oh and the score and cinematography never falls short of beautiful.

Aurangzeb

*ing : Arjun Kapoor, Prithviraj Sukumaran, Rishi Kapoor
Director : Atul Sabharwal

Tagline: Son. Brother. Successor. Emperor.

I have to say that I enjoyed Aurangzeb. May be cause its story, or the fact it was based in gurgoan, a city I lived in for last 6 years, and even tho I don’t like many things abt it, I cant help bt to be attached to it.
The film does show the murky world of gurgaon which is a concrete jungle, run by land sharks and builders and rich spoilt brats. Beneath it, there is a also a drama about family of corrupt cops, and family of biggest builders in city and wat in common they both have. Film has good cast which includes Rishi Kapoor, Arjun Kapoor, PrithviRaj, Swara Bhasker etc.
If only film had better music and was marketed well, it cud hv done better business at box office.

Shootout at Wadala

*ing : John Abraham, Manoj Bajpayee, Anil Kapoor, Kangana Ranaut
Director : Sanjay Gupta

It’s a bad film. Very bad film. Even though he has ripped off most of the films he has made, I still liked the style and attitude of sanjay gupta, the director. Apparently his first original film (based on a book Dongri to Dubai )Gupta had made claims that it is his best work and there was tremendous hype around it by the director and his writer on social networking sites.
But as I said, it’s a bad film. Its about the first encounter recorded in Mumbai police history, of Manya Surve, apparently first Hindu Don of underworld. Its also about his back-story as how an honest citizen gets drawn in murky world of crime and deceit and how difficult it is to come back from there.
Film has stars like john Abraham, Kangna ranaut, Anil Kapoor etc bt none of them seems rightly cast. Except perhaps sincere Kapoor. John Abraham acts bad, really bad. Kangna is a showpiece and rest of the cast is terrible I wud say. Film has too much unnecessary violence, gore and some off-putting sex and rape scenes. Which I think film cud easily hv done without. Heavy on dialog and slow-mo shots and item numbers, this film is a headache.

This film has been huge hit. And I was curious to know why. Throughout the movie I kept wondering wat was abt the movie to become such a hit. And my answer was, nothing. Pity on times where such movies end up becoming such a huge grosser.

Blue Valentine

*ing : Ryan Gosling, Michelle Williams, Faith Wladyka
Director : Derek Cianfrance

Tagline : Nobody Baby But You And Me.

This film is about the contrasts of a married couple's life before and after their marriage.

There is a lot of praise for "Blue Valentine", and Michelle Williams even got an Oscar nomination for best actress. I expected it to be a captivating drama, but I was thoroughly disappointed. I was so bored by the film that I struggled to stay awake.

"Blue Valentine" may be a very raw film, with emotions (and also skin) exposed bare. The emotional contrast between between the loving times before marriage; and the cold distant times after marriage is well portrayed. However, what we do not see is why they have progressed this way. The film only shows the beginning and the ending, and the middle is all left out. I think it would have been fulfilling to see what happens in between that leads to the communication and emotional breakdown.

True Romance

*ing : Christian Slater, Patricia Arquette, Dennis Hopper
Director :Tony Scott

Tagline : Stealing, Cheating, Killing. Who said romance is dead?

Not often that I watch a film again. Bt since I was in Tarintino mood somehow, I decided to revisit his one of the most famous film he did not direct. Yes, True Romance.
The film was written by Quentin Tarantino, and it really shows with the sharp dialogue and crazy plot. The film centres around Clarence (Christian Slater) who meets and marries Alabama (Patricia Arquette). After Clarence goes to get Alabama's belongings, through a series of mishaps, he ends up with suitcase of coke and they decide to sell it. This leads to a wild adventure involving drug dealers, police and movie executives.
True Romance" is a high speed crime thriller with plenty of action, romance and dark humour and a collection of characters that make every scene bristle with excitement and interest. The plot is fascinating throughout, the dialogue is witty and entertaining and the star-studded cast deliver some great performances. A story about a young couple on the run may not seem strikingly original but this one is told with so much flamboyance, dynamism and panache that it's completely irresistible and tremendously enjoyable to watch.
Overall a solid movie with a strong plot, good character development, and all around exceptional performances. To those who shy away from the typically dark nature of Tarantino's films, note that "True Romance" has a happy ending. :)

*ing : Matthew Fox, Jorge Garcia, Evangeline Lilly, Evangeline Lilly, Naveen Andrews, Josh Holloway, Terry O'Quinn
Created by :J.J. Abrams, Jeffrey Lieber, Damon Lindelof

Tagline : On this island, survival is not a game.

Lost is a show I have been wanting to watch it for long time. I did not much abt it bt I had heard tremendous buzz around its final season. Then I read its synopsis and I was intrigued. Finally, hv started with the show and so far its been mixed feeling. I have loved it sometimes and found boring sometimes. Its abt a plane crash survivors on an mysterious island. There is a bunch of eccentric people with a past which relates them all to some point ( to be reveled later on how). Each episodes consist of main story abt wats happening on island and a back story of any character as how they landed on the plane and later on this crash. Some characters are interesting and fun bt the flashback stories tend to get boring quite often. To think of it, this will go on till 6 seasons does scare me a bit bt I d surely like to know wat is happening on the island.

A good Day to Die Hard

*ing : Bruce Willis, Jai Courtney, Sebastian Koch
Director : John Moore

Tagline : Yippee Ki-Yay Mother Russia

Even for a rookie of the Die Hard's Franchise, this is not a Die Hard : where is the real bad guy, where is the real John Mc Clane, where is the real thrilled plot, where is the impossible action scenes and the bad ass Mc Clane's jokes ? Moore just kill it... The story is so boring that you have the impression that Bruce Willis himself is not having a good time. And the real missing part is those conversations between Mc Clane and the bad guys when John is teasing the bad guy. The editing is to clippy : Moore doesn't take time to install the ambiance. Russia seems to cool for John, no tension, no real danger. And the relationship with his son is just to hollow. In fact, only the name John Mc Clan is the only thing left of the Die Hard's franchise. R.I.P. Die Hard.

Tagline : He's still dead but he's getting warmer

I have stated this before many times on this blog and I d say again, zombie movie is one genre I truly hate. I have not liked any movie in past which had zombie theme.
This movie is Ok, would probably not watch it again but it's a good one view, time filler kind of movie. The story is okay, I guess the moral of the story is that anyone can be redeemed from an evil past. Some of the acting is pretty inconsistent. I was just expecting more comedy and maybe better acting. I think the overall story is pretty good and the 3 or 4 times there was a funny part. I think the trailers make it seem a little more hilarious than it is.

Ek thi Daayan

*ing : Emraan Hashmi, Kalki Koechlin, Konkana Sharma, Huma Querieshi
Director :Kannan Iyer

I am not fond of horror films. I avoid it as much as I can. Bt this was a mainstream hindi movies with stars so I was tempted to watch. Also, it was produced by one of my favorite, Vishal Bhardwaj so was looking forward anyway.
Film has good and well written first half. Konkona Sen Sharma was the highlight of the first. She is deliciously scary. Also the kids are super cute and acts their part as well.
film has its moments, bt all of them are in first half only.
The Climax, is truly ugly. The highly awaited throughout the movie many believed that there is so much waiting to be told at the end. Bt it all ends in a farce. Only if they had worked on the second half of the movie. Also, the twist, which obviously seemed forced, was damn stupid.

Minority Report

*ing : Tom Cruise, Max von Sydow, Colin Farrell
Director : Steven Speilberg

Tagline : The system is perfect until it comes after you.

I am not the type to watch films again just for the sake of it. However I wanted to watch this one coz it had been long I saw original and I had very few memory of wat film was about.
In the future, murders are prevented before they are performed. When pre-cog officer John Anderton (Tom Cruise) is accused of committing a pre-crime, he must find out why he will kill a man he has never met.

'Minority Report' is Spielberg's best of the 2000s.

Great story and script. It fast-paced, intelligent, and real at the same time.

Tom Cruise gives a great emotional performance and uses his smile perfectly.. Colin Farrell gives a great snobby performance and his chemistry with Cruise is top-notch.

The star of the film is Steven Spielberg. This movie is an old-school noir story, set in the future. The production design is high-tech with chrome and clear windows everywhere. The special effects are amazing, as well as the cinematography and editing.
Never boring and always interesting. Must watch if you have not.

Pyaasa

*ing : Mala Sinha, Guru Dutt, Waheeda Rehman
Director : Guru Dutt

Well made Bollywood film by one of its exceptional filmmakers. The story seems to be based on the novel "Devdas" by Saratchandra Chatterjee, though not credited so (poor poet is still in love with his former girlfriend who has married for money, despite that he is himself loved by a selfless prostitute). The ending is different of course, as it is not tragic here but rather educative. The quite open and bold social criticism - especially in the song on prostitution - is also well worth noticing.

The music is beautiful, the actors are convincing, especially Guru Dutt as the poor and misunderstood poet with an attitude and Waheeda Rehman as the prostitute with a heart of gold. It is interesting that the songs are often inserted in the story itself (many of them are REALLY songs sung in the story), and are not only musical picturizations of fantasies, dreams, etc., as it is often the case in Bollywood films. Though this also occurs of course, as in the Guru Dutt-Mala Sinha duet scene. Well worth seeing for lovers of heart-wrenching melodrama and vintage Bollywood music.

The Next Three Days

*ing : Russell Crowe, Elizabeth Banks, Michael Buie
Director : Paul Haggis

Tagline :Lose who you are to save what you love.

This movie is "watchable", but not a whole lot more. Being a big fan of the show Prison Break, I generally enjoy this style of film/show and thought that this movie had a lot of potential, but by the end, it just seemed like a cheap imitation. The characters were not particularly believable, especially Russel Crowe, who had a pretty sub par performance compared to some of the great movies he's previously starred in. There were additionally a handful of minor holes in the plot that just left it feeling poorly thought out and executed. The whole movie just feels a little bit rushed and poorly put together, so I would not see it again. If you're a big fan of Russel Crowe or have nothing better to do, it's worth watching, but in any other instance, I wouldn't recommend it.

Tagline:He's smashing the game world wide open

I have been so caught up watching this television series these days, I hardly get time to watch Movies. Also the reason is that, there are no good movies these days to watch. Its also been long time I saw a any animation movie. Wreck it Ralph, which was nominated for Oscar last year and lost to Brave. I haven’t seen Brave yet, (though I did read some disappointing reviews) I think Wreck it Ralph totally deserved Oscar. It is everything an animation movie should be about. Funny, charming, bright colors, story which is for adults and kids both. This is what Pixar is (was?) famous for. And I how so wish this was made by Pixar.
The film is about a character within a video game named Ralph who does nothing but wrecking. He is a nice guy bt due to his work, he doesn’t get appreciated by anyone. Bored of his job, he leaves the game which creates a ripple effect which cud lead to entire gaming station being shut down. There is also a sub plot of an extremely cute girl wanting to win race who befriends Ralph and gives best moments of movies. Truly worth a dekko.

It also is very easy to like cause of some tremendous cinematography of New York skyline. Good looking people wearing best clothes cracking tough cases.. too much fun I tell you. Though I also must mention the way season has ended, i.e. Harvey n Mike drifting apart and almost, fighting out against each other. And that just sounds delicious. 2 best Lawyer minds in city, going full throttle, I am sure the wait will be worth. !
