Pacific Rim

*ing : Idris Elba, Charlie Hunnam, Rinko Kikuchi
Director : Guillermo del Toro

Tagline : To fight monsters we created monsters

Guillermo Del Toro shows us what Transformers had the potential to be but instead of two groups of alien robots fighting each other 'Pacific Rim' gives us man made robots fighting giant monsters.

Set in the not too distant future man kind is facing their biggest fight for survival when a portal, known as the breach opens at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean and numerous monsters called Kaijus come through and strike blows on numerous cities across the globe. They decide the only way to counter these attacks is to build giant robots called the Jaegers. The robot required two pilot but also had to be considered compatible. The better compatibility, the better they will fight. For a while it proves effect but the attacks become more frequent meaning time is running out for man kind.

Charlie Hunnam plays retired Jaeger pilot Rayleigh Becket who is trying to come to terms with losing his brother who died while fighting along side him against a Kaijus. Idris Elba gives a fine performance as Commander Stacker Pentecost, who is reluctant to allow Rayleigh to pilot along side Mako (Kikuchi) who could be considered inconsistent in her performance. The audience is supposed to see her as a strong and capable fighter but she is often seen as too vulnerable and the script can't make it's mind up on her character's traits.

This is one of the best shot movies this year and special effects to match. We see numerous fights in the form of news reports where the different angles are incredible.
